10/13/2023 0 Comments Lexi euphoria sisterThere has been multiple people in my life who just love to trauma dump with all the gory details. On the downside, this can leave me kind of vulnerable to people taking emotional advantage of me. I want to know everything about that new person you met or how your test went and yes, I want to see the pictures of your dog that your mom just sent you.Įven though I’m not even close to an expert on relationship drama or tragedy, I can still try and give advice and I’ll always lend a shoulder to cry on. Then you get to interview people and just pick their brains and listen to them talk about something that they might be passionate about. Essentially, our job is to search through social media and the campus to find the newest things that are happening. That’s probably my toxic trait I really am a sucker for gossip, which is one of the reasons I love writing for The Oracle. If you are having a conversation near me, I can guarantee that I’m eavesdropping. Even outside my classes, I’m always tuning in for juicy gossip. I think all my professors could confirm that I don’t talk very much during discussions because I’m always curious about what other people have to say, and it gives me the opportunity to make fun of the stupid comments people make in class. Now, I’m way more extroverted and assertive but depending on who I’m with, I still tend to be quieter. I worked as a waitress in a retirement home, and I often had to get a supervisor to assure the residents that I was giving them the correct information about the menu, even when I knew I was always right. Because of this, I was super overlooked by my peers in school and often times, I just wasn’t taken seriously. My parents always told me that when someone asked me what my name was, I had to repeat it ten times over for anyone to hear. I just love soaking all the information in.Īs a kid, I used to be super quiet and shy. I’ve been told I’m a good listener, which I think is true. She’s the girl that’s easy to get along with, but super outspoken and secretive. It’s more about the way she interacts with her peers that reminds me of myself. No, I don’t have a psychotic sister who I’m constantly fighting with and no, I don’t have a secret crush on the town drug dealer. But I specifically related to her relationship to the other characters on the show. I’m sure a lot of people can relate to Lexi, she’s probably the most normal high school student in the show. When talking about Lexi Howard, Rue said “She was an observer that’s who she was.” I thought about what she meant by that for a minute and came to a conclusion - “oh my God, that’s so me.” We all deserve to take a deep breath after seeing Sam Levinson’s madness play out over the course of eight weeks.Īnyways, I was watching S2 episode three, “Ruminations: Big and Little Bullys,” the iconic Cal flashback episode, when amidst the chaos, something Rue (the narrator) said stuck with my brain. During the boredom of quarantine, I watched HBO’s hit show “Euphoria,” and like the rest of the world, I watched season two every Sunday (sometimes Mondays).

One of the women who appears in the film, Koko Da Doll, was reportedly shot to death in Atlanta in April. The film is raw and unflinching, featuring discussions that range from the danger the women often face to the men who are secretly attracted to and patronizing them. Smith’s film does the same for Black transgender sex workers in New York City and Atlanta today. “Paris Is Burning” gave the world a glimpse into the ballroom culture in New York City, shining a spotlight on the LGBTQ+ community of the mid-to-late 1980s there. “I will never forget the first time I saw it, so for people to compare such a film to what I’ve done with my first film, I’m just blown away by that.” “I think it’s a tremendous comparison because ‘Paris Is Burning’ was so groundbreaking when it happened,” she recently told CNN. Regardless of the origin, once inside, you'll quickly understand why it's called Colossal Cave and why it's a welcome relief from the heat. "From that statement it's believed the name Colossal Cave came from."Īnother theory, Leighton told KGUN 9, is that one-time UArizona President Byron Cummings gave it its name. "After exploring the cave for quite awhile he came out and when asked about it he said 'the cave was colossal,'" Leighton explained. A Boy Scout named Lynn Hodgson was asked by a potential developer to explore the cave. By 1917, it earned it's larger than life name. In 1905, the cave was actually mined for its bat guano, used as fertilizer. People are still on the look out for it to this day. What happened to the stolen loot is unclear. As the legend goes, he served almost two decades in prison in Yuma and never confessed to where the treasure was. After a shootout, just one of the train robbers survived. The sheriff and his posse tracked the bandits to the cave. They escaped with thousand of dollars in currency, gold and silver. "On one of his tours around his property he discovered an opening that he thought was a mine, which turned out to be what we now call Colossal Cave."Īt the time, Solomon Lick's discovery was known as "The Mountain Spring Cave." Eight years later, in 1887, the cave played a major role in what became know as the "Legend of the Lost Loot."Īccording to Leighton's research, three men robbed the same Southern Pacific train twice in a four month period. "Around 1879, a guy name Solomon Lick took over the Mountain Springs Ranch," Leighton said. According to Tucson historian David Leighton, the area became known as Mountain Springs Ranch which had a stagecoach stop and a hotel. And if countries say it is important, they should act accordingly. But nuclear transparency is not a gift to adversaries but a norm that nuclear-armed states should continue to promote and uphold for international and democratic reasons. Secrecy and defense hawks often argue that the United States should not release such information when its adversaries don’t. Moreover, lack of and decreasing transparency leave the public debate open for exaggerations and false rumors. Lack of and decreasing nuclear transparency increase uncertainty and suspicion and can cause other countries to increase reliance on worst-case scenarios and even make mistakes about the intensions and plans of other nuclear-armed countries. Ironically, North Korea is the only country that can be said in some sense to be increasing transparency, although not by providing raw data but by touting new weapons and strategy that as a result provide some additional information. The global trend is that the nuclear-armed states are decreasing the transparency of their nuclear arsenals, including countries that are otherwise saying transparency is important. The political rationale was probably a reaction to Russia’ invasion of Ukraine. Instead, he mentioned a vague percentage reduction since 1967. It was expected that Secretary of State Antony Blinken would use his speech to the NPT Review Conference in August 2022 to announce the September 2021 stockpile number. Then, in a curious decision in 2022, the Biden administration discontinued its own nuclear transparency policy. “Increasing the transparency of states’ nuclear stockpiles is important to nonproliferation and disarmament efforts, including commitments under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, and efforts to address all types of nuclear weapons, including deployed and nondeployed, and strategic and non-strategic.” An announcement on the National Nuclear Security Administration’s web site states: But after Joe Biden won the presidential election, his administration in October 2021 restored stockpile transparency by declassifying the number as of September 2020. When the Trump administration took office, it soon closed the door on transparency and kept it shut for three years. These disclosures continued in subsequent years and even expanded to include the number of weapons awaiting dismantlement. In 2010, the Obama administration declassified the entire remaining history of US nuclear weapons stockpile as well as warheads dismantled since 1994. In 1994, the US Department of Energy declassified the stockpile size and other information between 19. The rejections of FAS’ declassification requests are noteworthy because the US government in previous years repeatedly has declassified and released such information to the public. The requests (see copies above) were made by Stephen Aftergood who until 2021 directed the FAS project on government secrecy. Unfortunately, the diplomats’ efforts are undermined by other elements of the US administration that are reducing transparency of the US nuclear arsenal.Įarlier this spring, the Department of Defense and Department of Energy twice rejected requests from the Federation of American Scientists to declassify the number of nuclear weapons in the US stockpile and the number of nuclear weapons awaiting dismantlement. They are right in doing so because nuclear transparency is important for international security and democratic values. This week, US diplomats will join colleagues in Vienna from 189 other countries for the first session of the Preparatory Committee for the 2026 Review Conference of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).Īt the meeting, the US diplomats are expected to speak in favor of nuclear transparency and criticize some other nuclear-armed states for not being transparent enough about their nuclear arsenal. While US diplomats were busy advocating nuclear transparency abroad, the Department of Defense and Department of Energy rejected two requests from the Federation of American Scientists to declassify nuclear weapons stockpile and dismantlement numbers. |
